Targeting Adsense Ads
I don’t pay much attention to the Adsense ads on my site, in that some ads pay a lot more than other ads and I almost never take the time and trouble to try and target the higher paying ads unless I am just curious about trying to figure out how the ads work.
If you’re trying to make money with Adsense then you really need to be on the higher end of the scale, or you need a ton of traffic.
I don’t have either so it’s not a big deal. But I was trying to get some ads for debt-consolidation. It seems like it should not be that hard to do. If I:
- put debt consolidation in the title
- then put debt consolidation in bold
- had a link to debt consolidation
- used debt consolidation several times in the body of my page
I started getting ads about DMV and registering your vehicle.
This was really puzzling to me – so I started changing things. I moved stuff around and I added stuff and I deleted stuff.
One of my changes worked because my ads changed to “auto recovery” ads. Then I noticed that I had used the words “stole” and “stolen”.
It had nothing to do with what I was writing about, I was trying to be colorful and make it a tiny bit more interesting.
Well these two words changed all the ads that were being delivered to that page. I took them out and waited 3 days and presto I started getting ads on debt consolidation.
I got so wrapped up in trying to find out where the DMV and auto ads were coming from that I forgot why I put the page up in the first place.
So the point to this whole thing is that sometimes Adsense ads will pick up one word from your text and deliver ads on that word. So if your not getting the ads you want look at the words your using and see if you can use similar words to get the same meaning.
