Blogger changing something with FTP

I have been uploaded photos to Dotphoto for about 10 years, and over these 10 years I uploaded a ton of photos, well good old dotphoto just decided to delete all my pictures.
It felt like I got punched in the stomach when I tried to log in and they just said no such account.
Then right after than Facebook deleted my mom's account, and I have been posting things on facebook that I kind of wanted to keep track of and now it makes me realize that everything I post on Facebook will probably be deleted one day, or they will decided to start charging a monthly fee and I will decided to cancel my account. Either way all my info will be gone.
So I just decided to start posting to my blog again to kind of keep track of things and after I post I see this message:
FTP publishing will no longer be available after May 1, 2010

You currently have blogs that are published using FTP. You must migrate your blogs to a new custom domain URL or a blogspot URL. To learn more...

So now I have to try and figure out what the heck that means, and if I can still use my blog or if I need to start looking for a new one.

I have been reading for the last 2 hours and this is all I have been able to come up with:

Blogger is going to "Migrate" something, this involves a rel-conocial and some changes in your CNAME and A records so all your url's are going to be changed and you now have to change your blog from www.domain.com to myblog.domain.com

Then you have to post some code at your old host and then host all your files on bloggers servers.

All this would be great except for one thing, and that is that I have no idea what any of this really means.

And it makes no sense to me at all why I would want to change all my urls around???

Looks like I need to just wait for some more of the dust to settle before I try to wrap my brain around what the heck is going on.
