Guys - why sending copy and pasted bulk emails does not work on a dating site.

I met a woman from an internet dating site, we had a good first date and things were going good.

The first time I went to her house we started talking about the dating site and how it worked for her. I was trying to get information from her about the woman’s view of internet dating.

I said something about the number of emails she got. She said let me show you and went over and turned on her computer and logged in to the dating site.

I felt like this was some forbidden area I was entering, I was getting to watch a woman go through her dating site and read her emails. I had never thought what this must be like.

She checked her inbox there were 26 emails. She instantly deleted 8 of them.

Wow, I was really surprised! I asked what she was doing and she said if she does not like the subject line then she deletes them.

She then started opening the emails. The first one she glanced at and then deleted it. I asked her what was wrong? She said it looked like a copy and pasted email.

The next one she looked at and scrolled down and said look at this it was huge it looked like it was saying something about the place where the guy was living and what was around there. She deleted it and said she didn’t care about where he lived.

  • This went on, to long - delete.
  • looks like copy and paste - delete.
  • Used two different types of fonts - delete.

She said I don’t have time to read all these emails I only have time for a couple and tomorrow there will be 20 more so I have to delete a lot of them.

She found one that did not look too long, too short, or have different types of fonts. She started reading and then pointed to the screen and said look he is talking about his last girlfriend, I don't care about his old girlfriend - delete.

Next one she read and said nothing wrong with this one but I don’t see anything that looks like he read my profile - delete.

She looks at the next one and said what do you think, and I was really surprised but just looking that the length of the email and the font, based on the 15 emails I had just looked at, it did look like someone had probably copied and pasted the email I said so and she said right and deleted it.

A few weeks ago I had sent out about 50 copy and pasted emails and got replies on 2 or 3 of them, now I understand why. After that I started

  • Making sure I use only one font
  • Find something in the profile and use it in the email to show I read it
  • Don’t talk about my old girlfriends
  • Don’t write about where I live or other boring things
  • Work on a good subject line

After that I started sending out short personal emails, I always put something about the profile to show I had read it, my response rate went way up.
