Domain Name Registrar |
Today I received in the main a letter telling me my domain name was going to expire.
The funny thing was I didn't remember registering that domain name.
So I looked it up in whois and sure enough there is my address, my email, all my personal information.
So next of course I do a google search and start reading, after a few more searches and a lot more reading I start to piece together what happened.
This company Domain Registry of America aka. www.droa.com is registering tons of domain names with other peoples information then they try and sell you the domain name.
Now if you decide you want this domain name you have no choice but to register it through them because you don't have any of the password to the domain name, only they do.
One of the main concerns that many people seem to have is what if someone where to do something illegal with this site.
Who would they come looking for? well the answer to that is obvious. They would come looking for me.
I had registered a domain name with their company in the past, so it looks like they took the personal information I gave them and used it to register another name with the hopes of selling it to me for a nice profit.
If this isn't illegal then it should be, and I can tell you I would never do business with them again if they were the last company on earth to register domain names.
Of course they send out an official looking bill, so it looks like I owe the money for this domain name.
And they will even take your master card number, so I have several options on how they can rip me off.
