Link Exchange Programs

I have spent about 4 hours today looking for a link exchange program that works.

What I have found it a lot of web sites that want to sell you something, or they try to disguise their insincere effort to sell you something by making it sound like that really use the product.

I get excited when I read, "Brand X is the best product I have ever used for bla bla bla"

Then right below it says "Brand Y is the best product I have ever used for bla bla bla"

Now I am not so excited anymore.

After that I read the exact same about brand Z and then 5 or 6 more.

They can't all be the best, I mean really give me some features tell me something that shows you have at least looked at the product.

I think link exchanges are important, you need them to get traffic to your site.

When you first launch your site, chances are that traffic will not race to you immediately.

I had one site that was listed in the search engines I received 5 visitors in 8 months.

Reciprocal link requests

If you want free traffic, then search engines and trading links are the two best ways to get that free traffic, and now that the search engines are ranking your site based on the links you have it really pays to trade lots of links.

When you start out with a PR rank of zero then almost nobody wants to link with you, if you make it up to PR7 then everybody and their mother will want to link to your site.

It's not fair that's just the way it works, but you can give yourself the best odds.

I get emails from people and I visit sites everyday that say here is my link post it on your home page.

I always laugh and say to myself if it were only that easy, maybe someone from Google with come by and post your site on Googles main page. (in your dreams).

At least give yourself a chance, don't demand or order someone to place your link on their site.

Don't just send an email and say "link to me at www.really-stupid.com", it's a waste of your time and a waste of time for the person who get's the email.

When asking for a reciprocal link exchange:

  • first post their link to your site
  • ask in a polite way if they would link to trade links with your site
  • make sure your web site is complete
  • don't threaten to remove their link if they don't link back
  • don't contact them again for 2 weeks if you do not hear from them
  • if their site has a "Submit URL page" then use it
Here is a template I use to send out requests.
