Finding Linking Partners

I have spend a lot of time getting linking partners and there are some things that work well and some that don't.

A lot of people will tell you just go get link partners, but it's not that easy.

You can spend hundreds of hours and end up will very little in the way of links.

For a new site it is hard, and now with Google banning sites it makes it even harder to get started.

One of the things I did to get a boost was got on ebay and paid $14 per month for someone to link to my site.

I got links from 10 pages with a google page rank of 5, I didn't get many visitors from these pages, I don't think they had much traffic at all, but I did get:

  • indexed in google the next day
  • page rank 2 the next google update
I happened to get lucky and google did an update the first month, so I canceled my listing after one month and started working on my own links.

I think buying the link was worth the $14 because with a page rank of 2 my guess is I at least  doubled the number of sites who would link to me and this was before all the google banning problems.

Now your response rate is probably closer to 4 times or more, when you have a page rank of 1 or more.

I like a lot of other webmasters have dropped all my links to sites with page rank of zero because I just don't want to take the risk of getting banned by google.

Another way to start out is to create a blog with blogger and get links to your blog.

I found it easier to get people to link to a blogger site with a page rank of zero and I was able to get a page rank of 2 at the first google update.

Then with your new page rank two site, just point a link to your other new site and wait for the next update.

It's possible that you might be able to get your blogger PR up and also increase the PR of another site at the same time, I have not tried this but there is a good chance it would work.

Ok, now that you have a page rank of one or two, start applying to sites for a link trade.

I have tried several different link management programs and LinkMachine is still the best one I have found, and it's free.

Now this is the best trick I have found...

When your looking for sites to trade links with, do a google search for similar sites to yours, and then start looking at the sites for link or resource pages.

When you find one that means everyone on that page has traded links with them and this is where you need to start.

A lot of software will search google, or other things.  Well 90 percent of those sites don't have email addresses, and the ones that have email address probably do not have a links page.

So trying to trade links with people listed in google is mostly a huge waste of time.

The best sites to find are sites that say we only trade links with page rank 5 or more, and your links pages must be easy to find from your main page and only one click away.

These sites are like gold...

Don't bother asking them for a link exchange it's a waste of time.

But now you have a list of sites that do trade links and also have good page rank, and many of them will not be so strict as to their link exchange policy and will trade links with you.

The best sites are the ones that have page rank on their links pages, always ask these sites to trade links, when they trade links with you it can be better than getting a dozen sites with not page rank to trade.
