I am not exactly sure what to call this one, the ad in the newspaper said:

Make $Millions on the Internet "The Real Way"


Then at the bottom of the newspaper it listed www.yoursemreg.com or call 1-800-419-5440 to register.

After I registered I got this message:

  • I went to this website and it says welcome to GETExcite.net - oh well
  • click on seminar briefing at the bottom and you get an error page
  • click on build your site - get another error
  • click on privacy/usage - one more error
    • sometimes I put up crappy websites that don't work, but hey I am not trying to sell you a website building service.....  if I was I think I would make sure my website was working as an example.
Then when I went to the seminar they tell you that they are GETExcite.net

and their phone number is really 877-832-9309

Free Camera


The newspaper ad also offers you a free camera, right before the seminar I read the add again and noticed it had some fine print that said.

*Digital Camera, shipping and handling is required. The camera will be made available to everyone (while supplies last).

After the seminar they did have coupons you could pick up for the camera, the shipping and handling turned out to be $9.99

I got one of these cameras at a time share talk and the one I have is not worth $2 let alone $9.99  If you want a cheap digital camera this not the way to go.

W. Duane Free


A guy came out to introduce Duane, he started telling a fishing story about when they all went fishing and Duane got the largest fish ever on the hook and was in the middle of a giant struggle to bring him in...

Then they announced that Duane would tell you the rest of the story.

Duane comes out and says that he grabbed the line on his pole and the fish broke the line and got away.

At this point I am asking myself "why are they telling this story?" he then says that only 10% of the people will educate themselves by doing things like going to seminars. So we are very special.

I am still trying to figure out how the fish story works into anything, never did figure out the fish story but here are the rest of the highlights from the seminar:
  • Duane had an open heart surgery and had $250k in medical bills and no job and he couldn't work but needed a lot of money.
  • he indicated he worked only a little and paid off his medical bills.
  • the reason that we are here was for the "all day workshop" and it was $30 for one or two people.

Included with workshop:
  • breakfast
  • lunch
  • binder
  • information
  • no obligation
  • consultation with professional
  • he wanted to know why we were here, to sell products or services.

He said he was going to teach us:
  • Internet Marketing
  • How to make more money
Then he went into a kind of drawn out story about how he was in Mexico and trying to find a hotel and had to drive back up the off ramp on a freeway to get there... I'm not sure what the point was?

The top 10 reasons people gave for needing money:
  1. pay off debt
  2. travel / vacations
  3. buy a home
  4. give to charity
  5. retirement
  6. security
  7. health care
  8. new car
  9. buy real estate
  10. pay for education
Duane gave these in reverse order and after #6 gave an example of someone who got a raise at their job on Friday, then on Monday was fired.

 After #4 he made a big point of how proud he was to be an American where the number 4 reason people want money is to give to charities.

  • The number one reason people get Divorced is money, number two is communication.

3 kinds of people, those who:

  1. make things happen
  2. watch things happen
  3. wonder what happened
  • He has a shovel in his garage that has never dug a hole by itself.
  • Explosive growth on the internet - total sales figures:
    • 2004 87 billion
    • 2005 150 billion
    • 2010 316 billion (estimated)
These are the total sales up to that point, so in the next 4 or 5 years if these numbers are right, the internet will have sales equal to all the sale that have ever taken place up to this point.

His point was that many people say they should have done something years ago because now they have missed all the opportunities, but if sales in the next 4 years will equal all the sales ever made on the internet, then there are a lot of opportunities coming up - I think this is a good point.
  • Are you rich - not sure what the point was here, I think just having a whole lot of money.
  • Are you  wealthy
    • if you make more than you spend
    • can do what you want to do
  • Story about a cell phone ringing and everyone checked their cell phones, one lady dove into her purse
    • pulled out one cell phone
    • pulled out 2nd cell phone
    • pulled out 3rd cell phone and answered it
You need to do 3 things:
  1. Align yourself with experienced partners
    • he used to change oil in his car, how he has a mechanic do it 
    • Michael Jorden has a trainer - you can get this at the workshop
  2. Know how money is made, marketing and training, at workshop
  3. Take action
  • Told some lady to stand up and look under her chair, she does and there is $20 taped under there.  Somehow this is suppose to show how she made money with him as a coach. 
  • Successful people are willing to do what unsuccessful people are not willing to do.
  • The best time to get involved in the internet is Now! (by going to the workshop)
  • The workshop will teach you
    • SEO
    • reciprocal linking
    • reverse linking
    • search engines
    • ebooks
    • vertical portals
    • a few other things
  • Internet Marketing is different than normal marketing
    • wal-mart and amazon have no advantage over you
    • how big you are makes no difference
    • only care about what the customer thinks
    • if customer wants luggage - they don't search for wal-mart
    • what people type is important not the name of your business
  • Strategic Partners
    • they have a product, you don't have a product but sell theirs
    • find someone selling widgets and tell them
      • are you making as much money as you had hoped with your website
      • I've been trained
      • I know how money is made
      • would you like additional money
    • [somehow these are magic and will make people do something]
  • Some guy is selling truck beds and has no parts in his garage, he only clicked and put $200k in his bank account.  Can you click for $200k? [this is a little dumb, but people at the seminar seemed to be eating it up]
  • Another guy is selling body building stuff and made 1 million
  • sage-hearts.com evaluates services and makes 30k to 50k per month
  • If it is too difficult for you to click for $200k then do affiliate marketing and other people will do the clicking and you will get the money, for people who think that to click a mouse for $200k is too much work.
  • mountain interiors - makes log beds someone made a lot of money with this.

  2. Knowledge of how to market
  • Scented candles - sold by Ron's Creations, but no one types in "rons creations" in the search engines so you tell ron "I've been trained"
  • Can't buy your way into the search engines, but you must be in the top 3 pages (top 30 results) to get lots of traffic
  • Don't have to program your website
    • programming fee for website is $2k to $100k
    • average is $5k
    • hosting fee is $200 to $500 per month
[wow I don't know where this guy shops but I pay nothing for my programming and $9.00 month for hosting up to 50 web sites - that's .18 cents per month per website for hosting]
  • Google and Yahoo are relevancy based
  • Some one who went to the workshop got #6 on Google 
[this is where I started to feel he was really misleading people, the #6 place was for "kemmni king salmon"  - what I guess no one at the seminar understood was that if you pick some bizarre words anyone can get on the first page, pick some really unusual combination and you will be the only one on the page and you will be the only one searching for the word also, so big deal]
  • Learn to influence the search engines, go to the workshop.
  • sell your products or sell others products
  • wire-sculpture.com sells bent wire jewelry - makes $90k per month got so many orders he had to start selling kits to make your own jewelry because he didn't have time to make it all
  • cuddle bug baby products, sells a baby diaper cake makes $100k per month
  • gift baskets for Idaho rednecks
  • prairie tumbleweed farm
    • sells to the movie industry
    • sells to Japan
  • cow pie clocks
    • if you don't know what a cow pie is, hay goes in one end, and a cow pie comes out the other end.
  • if you can sell a cow pie clock then you can sell anything on the internet
  • Duane writes western novels but his company name is Free Company, and no one who wants a western novel is going to type in "Free Company"
  • At the workshop you will learn
    • how to make money
    • get to visit with a marketing consultant
      • get your name on the list early not everyone gets to talk to the consultants
  • Knowledge is worthless
    • knowledge + action = power
  • The workshop is Thursday from 9am to 5pm, many people will take a day off to go fishing or hunting, but not many will take a day to improve the quality of their lives
  • Charge $2500 for the same workshop if you want a private workshop
  • Little boy is tending sheep and picks a blue flower, the mountain opens up and he goes in and fills his pocket with jewels when he leaves a voice says you forgot something, little boy goes back changes some jewels and leaves, once outside the jewels turn to sticks because he forgot the blue flower inside.
[this has happened to me several times, now I know to keep that damn blue flower, this made the whole workshop worth my time, next time I am tending sheep I will have it made when the mountain opens up]

[over half probably 2/3 people signed up for the workshop, I didn't sign up I guess he didn't convince me that he really knew what he was talking about, and I was a little disappointed at their obvious attempts to mislead people into thinking next month they could make $100k by a couple clicks on their mouse. And I am getting tired of the old Google high ranking trick where you just pick a unused word combination. Hey search Google for "Max5" and look who is number 2 wow I am a trained expert I should start my own seminar]

The good points of the seminar

I did come away from this seminar thinking about how SEO is important and what their king fish example got me thinking about is how I need to spend a little more time looking at my keywords.

Maybe choose Keywords that are more popular because ranking for dead keywords will not get you much.

Also I have a little more optimism about the internet because I probably tend to side with the people who say I missed the boat, I should have started a website 5 years ago, but if all the business that has ever been done on the internet is going to double in the next 4 years then there should be some opportunities for one more person in there somewhere.
